Table 11 Pool Requirements
Item
Requirement
Pool capacity
8 GB to 286 TB per
pool
The capacity of
the pool is calculated by the following formulas:
The capacity of the pool (MB) = total page number × 42 − (4116+ 84×pool-VOL
number)
Total page number = Σ(↓↓block number of pool-VOL ÷ 512↓ ÷168↓)
↓↓:Truncate t
he part of the formula between the arrows after the decimal point.
Number of pool-VOLs
1 to 256 per pool
You cannot register volumes that have already been registered as pool-VOLs
in another pool. If you create pools for XP Snapshot, the pools for XP Thin
Provisioning will decrease.
Number of Pools
Up to 32 total pools maximum per storage system for both XP Snapshot and XP
Thin Provisioning. Pool IDs (0 to 127) are assigned as pool identifiers.
Increasing capacity
Although yo
u can increase pool-VOL capacity online, increasing parity group
capacity in
stead is recommended.
Reducing capacity
Although you can increase pool-VOL capacity online, increasing parity group
capacity instead is recommended.
Deleting You can delete pools to which V-VOLs are not associated.
Threshold
The follow
ingtwo thresholds arefor monitoring thefreeareainthe pool.
Pool threshold 1: Default value is 70% of total pool capacity. You can set it
between 5% and 95%, in 5% increments. The default value is recommended.
Pool threshold 2: Always 80% of total pool capacity.
Pool usage over either threshold will cause a warning to be issued via a SIM
and an SNMP trap.
Data allocation unit
42 MB
At least 42 MB of the area is allocated in a pool for writing by the host.
