the cluster_config process, the system administrator configures the SVA to identify

remote-capable nodes.

2. Your system manager installed the necessary launch scripts for these packages.

3. Your system manager opened the required firewall ports on remote-capable nodes on SVA.

This may already be done as part of the SVA installation.

See the HP SVA System Administration Guide for information on these steps.

6.1.3.2 Interactive Mode Example

The following steps launch the gears application in interactive mode:

1. If not done already, set the TurboVNC passwords using the following command:

% /opt/TurboVNC/bin/vncpasswd

Each user needs to do this. Your password is saved in ~/.vnc/passwd. You can provide

both user and view-only passwords. These should be different. You can give the view-only

password to someone so that they can see your remote session, but not interact. TurboVNC

assigns access based on which password is used. The user password lets you provide mouse

and keyboard input.

You may have an old version of the VNC password file. Delete ~/.vnc/passwd if you get

the following error:

Client could not authenticate.

2. Log in to the head node of the cluster from your desktop.

3. Enter the command:

% sva_vgltvnc.sh -I -g 1280x1024

The command displays instructional messages, including the external name of the

remote-capable node it is connecting to on the cluster, (for example,

svan2-external-1.xxx.yyy.zzz). Make a note of the external name for Step 5.

Specifying the geometry is optional. Other command options are available as documented

in the HP SVA Visualization System Software Reference Guide. (Note that problems sometimes

occur running the script or logging into the Linux GUI. Check your login file for incompatible

settings.)

4. Immediately start the VNC client on your desktop. It's helpful to have an icon available for

this.

Alternatively, you can use a Java-enabled web browser as the Windows or Linux desktop

viewing client rather than starting VNC. You may need to download and set up Java for

your Linux desktop. (Note that the browser interface is not as fast as the VNC client.)

5. If you are using the VNC client, enter the external name of the connected remote visualization

node into the connection field of the VNC client window. This is the external node name

mentioned in Step 3 (for example, svan2-external-1.xxx.yyy.zzz). Press the Enter

button from the VNC client window.

Alternatively, if you are using a browser, enter the URL into the browser address pane as

appropriate for the remote visualization node on the cluster. It takes the form:

http://external-node-name:1

Substitute the external node name mentioned in Step 3 for external-node-name string

in the URL.

6. Enter your VNC password into the resulting login window.
