Using the financial solver
Use the financial solver to perfonn time-value-of-money calculations, and
to calculate amortization amoimts that relate to these calculations.
Time-value-of-money calculations relate to a borrowed amoimt of
money that is to be repaid, at a fixed compounding interest rate, over a
period of time.
Amortization is the way the repayments are divided between the
principal amount and interest on the loan.
The financial solver allows you to calculate any one of the parameters for
a time-value-of-money transaction. You can perfonn modelling by entering
all parameters except one, and calculating the value for the missing one.
TIme-value-oF-money calculation parameters
The financial solver uses the following parameters:
N
P/oYR
PV
PMT
FV
BEG/END
The total number of compoimding interest periods and
payments. A compoimding interest period is the period
after which the amoimt of interest that the loan has accrued
is added to the principal. The financial solver assumes that
this period corresponds to the payment period.
The annual interest rate, expressed as a nominal
percentage.
The value of the loan at the beginning of the first period.
The periodic payment amoimt, or the repayment amount
that is to be made in each period.
The value of the loan at the end of the period. For
example, if you were calculating details of a complete loan
repayment, this value would be 0.
Whether the payment is made at the beginning or end of the
payment period.
