9AlarmConguration
Introduction
The Alarms Conguration screen is located in the Conguration tab in Performance Advisor XP (PA XP) as
shown in Alarm Conguration screen.
Alarms are conditions that alert designated personnel or programs about a system malfunction, a
detected condition, or an error. The Alarm Conguration screen is located under the Conguration tab.
Usethisscreentocreateandcongure alarm types for specied performance metrics on an XP disk arra y.
Performance data is monitored for any currently congured and enabled alarm(s). A threshold level of
1, 2, or 3 is specied for each alarm. The higher the threshold level, the more critical the event. The
following examples show a description for each level:
Performance data is at threshold level 3 if its value is equal to or greater than threshold level 3.
___________Level 3 _ __________
Performance data is at threshold level 2 if its value is equal to or greater than threshold level 2 and less
than threshold level 3.
___________Level 2 _ __________
Performance data is at threshold level 1 if its value is equal to or greater than threshold level 1 and less
than threshold level 2.
___________Level 1 _ __________
Performance data is at threshold level 0 if its value is less than threshold level 1.
Alarm events are created when an event moves from one threshold level to another threshold level.
Use the Alarm Conguration scre en to specify the threshold levels and the dispatch levels. When the
performance data of the currently con gured and enabled alarm enters or exits the dispatch level, an
event is generated. The event is rstsenttotheEventLogscreenandthentotherecipientthatyouhave
specied (by SNMP, email, or running a script) if it falls within the scheduled time period. The recipient
address must be a UNIX server ID.
If you have specied an email recipient for alarms, PA XP identies the difference between entering and
exiting the dipatch level within the text, in the subject line of the email. If the alarm is exiting the dispatch
level, PA XP identies the alarm as a normal alarm an d populates the subject line of the email with XP
Alarm. If the alarm is entering the dispatch level, PA XP identies the alarm as a recovery alarm and
populates the subject line of the email with XP Alarm - Good Information Alarm.
