M-to-N Remote-Copy Considerations
1-to-1 Remote-Copy Considerations
Synchronous remote copy cannot be configured with FCIP. FCIP can be used only in asynchronous
periodic mode.
As of HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 and later, four RCFC links per node are supported. In a 1-to-1 remote-copy
configuration with eight nodes on each of the primary and backup systems, 32 RCFC links can be
configured. For FCIP, four physical links can be configured.
On the following storage systems, an FC HBA may be shared between host-connect and RCFC.
Host and RCFC traffic must be on separate ports:
HP 3PAR 10000 StoreServ Storage
HP 3PAR 7450 StoreServ Storage
HP 3PAR 7400 StoreServ Storage
HP 3PAR 7000 StoreServ Storage
Mixed-Mode Support in 1-to-1 Remote-Copy Configurations
Prior to HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2, HP 3PAR Remote Copy supported only a single replication mode
(synchronous or asynchronous periodic mode) between a pair of HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage
systems running in a 1-to-1 remote-copy configuration. HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 and later supports mixed
synchronous and asynchronous periodic support in a 1-to-1 remote-copy configuration. A mixed
synchronous and asynchronous periodic configuration allows some host applications to use
asynchronous periodic mode while other applications simultaneously use synchronous mode. In a
mixed synchronous and asynchronous periodic configuration:
If the 1-to-1 remote-copy system is expected to support mixed (synchronous and asynchronous
periodic) transport layers, ensure that there are enough transports of the desired type (RCIP,
RCFC).
For HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage series systems and HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 Storage
series systems, the maximum number of replicated volumes on a mixed
