Enter, Measure] if the target rule is NAL-NL2 or [Average, Enter, Measure] otherwise. The RECD is used to
convert entered HL data (thresholds and UCL's) to SPL values on the Speechmap screen (when Insert+Foam
or Insert+Mold is selected as HL Transducer) and to convert coupler SPL measured in the test box to
estimated ear canal SPL. The DSL child and NAL-NL2 fitting rules provide differing age-appropriate
average RECDs which will result in differing SPL thresholds. Estimated ear canal SPL always uses DSL data
when RECD set to average. If Measure is selected, you will be required to measure the client’s RECD values
or accept values from the RECD test. If Enter is selected, HA-2 or HA-1 RECD values may be entered
and are required at all 9 audiometric frequencies. When Enter or Measure is selected, you will
be required to specify the coupling in use between the RECD transducer and ear.
7. RECD Coupling: Select from [Earmold, Foam tip]. Specifies the coupling between the RECD transducer
and ear. A correction will be applied when entering HA-2 referenced RECD data and when measuring with
earmold.
8. Binaural: Select from [Yes, No]. Determines if fitting targets will be adjusted for binaural summation
effects. This is excluded for [DSL child] targets.
9. REDD: Real-ear-to-Dial Difference. [Average] (this cannot be changed). REDD values are similar for adults
and children. If Headphone is selected as the transducer type, adult average values will be used to transform
dB HL audiometry to dB SPL.
10. ABR nHL to eHL: Normalized HL to estimated HL conversion factors. Permitted only if [Transducer] =
ABR (nHL). Select from [Default, Enter]. If [Enter] is selected, an entry screen will be provided after
threshold data have been entered. Otherwise default factors will be used. These may be set to DSL values or
to values that you have entered in Setup. Note that, in some facilities, nHL is defined in such a way that it is
effectively eHL; in these cases, ABR (eHL) should be selected and no conversion factors will be applied. See
ABR nHL to eHL setup.
Fitting to targets for soft speech
See On-ear or Test box mode, Using Speechmap and Assessment data entry for setup and audiometric data entry.
1. Select [Audiometry] to choose the target method and enter audiometric data.
2. Select Test 1 and set stimulus to [Speech ISTS], [Speech-std(1)] or [Speech-std(2)] and level to 50. Elongated
+ symbols show the target range for 50 dB speech LTASS.
3. Adjust frequency shaping and gain for soft sounds so that the middle curve (the LTASS) falls within the
target range, especially between 500 - 4000 Hz. Press <Continue> to run the complete passage. Repeat as
necessary.
