Modifying Containers

Typically, you use the container promote command as part of

a process to provide fault tolerance for existing volume sets.

To work with container promotion, you must understand:

■ The container promotion attributes you can specify

■ How to promote a container

■ Container promotion in a UNIX environment

The following sections discuss each of these topics.

Understanding the Container Promotion Attributes You can

Specify

You use the container promote command to promote a

container. The container promote command has no attributes.

Understanding How to Promote a Container

This section provides an example that describes how to promote a

container.

Before promoting a container, use the container list command

to display information about your containers, as in the following

example. In the example, the Typ e column indicates that container 0

is a Stripe set.

HPN0> container list

To promote a container, use the container promote command, as

in the following example. In the example, container 0 is promoted

from a single-level stripe set to a multi-level stripe set of volume

sets.

HPN0> container promote 0

Executing: container promote 0

After running the container promote command to promote a

container, use the container list command to display

information about the containers, as in the following example. In the

example, the Type column indicates a top-level Stripe set, whose
