Tape Erase utilityDetails/Device Specific utility
This utility converts a DDS, LTO, or SDLT data tape into a blank tape. This utility has
the following three options:
Description
• Quick erase — (one minute) Removes the tape directory and writes EOD at the
start of the tape, but it does not overwrite the data on the remainder of the tape.
This option is not available for SDLT.
• Full erase — (two to four hours) Erases the tape directory and also overwrites
all data on the tape.
• Secure erase — (10 to 20 hours) Performs a full erase followed by a rewind.
It repeats this four more times for a total of five full erases.
