5.5.26 Standard/ISA Motherboard Removal and Replacement (Model 400s)
Refer to Figure 5-44 and follow these steps to remove the motherboard.
1. Remove the top and side covers, CPU board with plate, all DIO boards, RFI
cover, all ISA cards and backplane, card cage, center wall, and right trim plate.
2. Disconnect the following cable connectors from the component side of the
motherboard:
• Main power distribution cable connector. Use a flat-tipped screwdriver to
press in on each side clip. Then, pull the connector out.
• Power switch cable connector.
• Main fans cable connector.
3. Remove the eight screws from the mass storage cover plate on the left side of
the chassis. Remove the mass storage cover plate.
4. Remove the lower mass storage mounting screws from the right side of the
chassis. Pull the mass storage device out four inches.
5. Disconnect the mass storage power distribution and SCSI cable from the back
side of the motherboard.
6. Remove the four screws holding the motherboard to the chassis.
7. Remove the motherboard by sliding it to the right so that its mounting pins
clear their holes. Then, pull it out.
Follow these steps to replace the standard/ISA motherboard:
1. Position the motherboard by placing it on its mounting pins. Then, slide it to
the left so that its tabs fit into their slots in the chassis.
2. Install the four motherboard screws to hold the motherboard to the chassis.
3. Connect the mass storage power distribution and SCSI cable to their connectors
on the back side of the motherboard.
4. Reinstall the lower mass storage device, if necessary.
5. Reinstall the mass storage cover plate.
6. Reconnect all cable connectors to the component side of the motherboard.
7. Replace the remaining assemblies.
