4-14 Hardware installation: Intelligent Peripheral Equipment module
553-4001-111 Standard 1.0 March 1997
Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E module—Option 11
If you have obtained a new Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E system, the module
is already assembled. It is necessary for you to insert the module into the
Option 11.
When you remove the front panel of the main cabinet of the Option 11 or
the front panel of an expansion cabinet, there are a number of slots,
numbered 2 to 9 in the main cabinet and 11 to 20 in the expansion cabinet,
where the Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E module can be inserted. Slots 10–12
in the main cabinet are reserved for Meridian Mail and cannot be used for
Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E. The Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E module
occupies any three consecutive slots. Its slot placement is determined by the
slot positions of existing applications already installed in either of the
Option 11 cabinets. The slot placements of future applications for your
system are also a consideration when deciding the slot placement for your
Meridian MAX IPE/IPE-E.
When the slot placement has been determined, slowly slide the module
along the slots into the cabinet, making sure the latches at the top and
bottom of the module are in an unlatched position, until it is firmly in place.
Make sure the latches at the top and bottom of the module are secured.
Input/output cables
Main cabinet
Two shielded four
-port cables are used to connect the Meridian MAX
IPE/IPE-E to its supervisor workstation, printers, and other peripheral
devices. Cable A (NT1R03AA) has a 50-pin key telephone connector on
one end and four DB-25 female connectors on the other, as well as an
additional Ethernet port, shown in Figure 4-14. Cable B (NT1R03BA) is
identical to Cable A except that it has no additional Ethernet port, shown in
Figure 4-14. Each of the eight female DB-25 connectors can connect to a
peripheral device. Cable A services Ports 1, 3, 5, and 7. Cable B services
Ports 2, 4, 6, and 8. Refer to the Communication Port Assignment Sheet
(Table 4-4) when connecting peripherals to cables.
Underneath the main cabinet of the Option 11 is a connector panel with 10
numbered connector ports. Each connector port connects to the
corresponding numbered slot directly above, inside the main cabinet. The
key telephone connectors of each four-port cable are connected here. These
connectors are held in place by a removable connector panel bar.
