Hardware overview
For an Application Equipment Module (AEM) installation, please read the
following chapters in the Application Equipment Module Installation
Guide (NTP 553-3201-200):

• “Installing a Stand-alone AEM”
• “Adding an AEM to a Column”
For an IPE/IPE-E installation, please read the following chapters in the
System Option 21, 51, 61, 71, 81 Installation and Maintenance Guide
(P0736432):
• “System overview”
• “System installation”
The following information should be obtained from the “Hardware
installation: Application Module (SNN/SNN-E)” or “Hardware installation:
IPE/IPE-E module” chapters of this document depending on your hardware
platform:
• VME card switch settings
• the internal input/output cables
• the external input/output cables
• MVME332XTS/XT serial input/output port upgrade (AEM installation
only)
The installation and connection of peripheral equipment can be obtained
from the “Modems,” “Workstations,” “Printers,” and “Meridian 1 circuit
card configuration” chapters of this document.
Installing the hardware
The following is a list of steps to install the Meridian MAX hardware:
1 Decide upon the layout of the peripheral equipment to be attached to
the Meridian MAX, bearing in mind the environmental and power
requirements.
2 Assess the need for self-powered limited-distance modems that permit
a distance between a peripheral and the Meridian MAX of more than
15 meters (50 feet).
