Meridian MAX
Installation Guide
Product release 8
ATTENTION
Use FTP Software’s PC/TCP network kernel or PC/TCP network
software only. If your system has LAN connectivity, you must use
either FTP Software’s PC/TCP network kernel or PC/TCP network
software for DOS, versions 2.05, 2.10, 2.20, 2.30, or 3.0 (OnNet
1.1).
PC/TCP kernel is the minimum requirement for Meridian MAX
LAN connectivity. The PC/TCP and the network interface cards
must be purchased separately. If you wish to take advantage of
other PC/TCP applications, the complete PC/TCP networking
software is required. Other LAN O/S versions of TCP/IP also do
not work with MTE.
FTP Software’s PC/TCP network kernel or network software provide the
LAN interface for the supervisor’s PC and support multiple types of LAN
cards. Meridian MAX 8 provides Ethernet and Ethernet 2 frame
connectivity for supervisor workstations through the industry-standard
TCP/IP protocol. LAN connectivity is also supported in a Token Ring
environment through use of a protocol converter. The Meridian MAX
system has no specific hardware dependency on the type of protocol
converter used.
Guidelines for installing PC/TCP
The following guidelines should be observed when installing PC/TCP
OnNet 1.1 for DOS/Windows and the PC/TCP Network Software 3.0 for
DOS/Windows:
• The PC/TCP software must be installed through DOS (TSR kernel)
and not Windows (VxD kernel).
• The PC/TCP software offers applications such as FTP, network
printing, connection over modems, exchanging messages, and so on.
These applications do not need to be installed to operate MTE.
• When installing the PC/TCP, you are prompted to enter a selection
regarding network connectivity. When this option appears, you must
select the DOS and Windows (TSR kernel) option to allow the
software to work properly with MTE.
