Meridian MAX setup
Perform Procedure 6-5 to configure Meridian MAX in a LAN environment.
Procedure 6-5
To configure Meridian MAX in a LAN environment
1 Ensure that your system has the LAN connectivity option enabled. For
more information, refer to
Meridian MAX 8 Maintenance and
Diagnostics
(NTP 553-4001-811), “Maintenance and administration
programs: system shutdown” chapter, “System parameters” subsection.
2 Set the Meridian MAX IP address and Hostname. For more information,
refer to
Meridian MAX 8 Maintenance and Diagnostics
(NTP 553-4001-811), “Maintenance and administration programs:
system shutdown” chapter, “System parameters” subsection.
3 Physically connect the Meridian MAX to the LAN.
Packet buffers
Before you can use MTE on your LAN, you must ensure that the hardware
(the PC’s network interface card) and FTP Software’s PC/TCP network
software are installed and operating correctly.
If you are using MTE on the LAN and experience poor response times, or if
you are losing your connection to the Meridian MAX, you may need to
increase the number of packet buffers that are set aside for the PC/TCP
kernel.
The PC/TCP kernel is a DOS Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program
which manages your PC’s access to the LAN. Packet buffers are storage
areas that the PC/TCP kernel uses for sending or receiving information
across the LAN.
FTP Software’s PC/TCP Users Guide outlines the steps required to
increase the number of packet buffers. The recommended number of packet
buffers for Meridian MAX is 10. This information is outlined in the
“Tuning PC/TCP” section of FTP Software’s PC/TCP Users Guide.
The following steps provide an overview of how to set the number of
packet buffers. These steps assume that the location of the FTP Software’s
PC/TCP software is included in your DOS path.
