New software installations
If your operation has never used an ACD-MAX or Meridian MAX, you can
only install a Meridian MAX 8 SNN-E or a Meridian MAX 8 IPE-E.
The SNN/SNN-E and IPE/IPE-E platforms have two types of new software
installations—customer installed or factory installed. You perform the
applicable procedure the first time you install the system. Refer to the
“New software installations” chapter for more information.
Software reinstallations and upgrades
Reinstallations
A software reinstallation is performed when you need to reinstall existing
Meridian MAX 8 software, if, for example, a problem arises with an
installation. If a problem does occur, the system asks you to attempt the
installation again. Determine whether hardware is causing the problem (for
example, missing or improperly connected equipment), and correct these
problems before restarting the installation. If there is a problem with
installing a factory-installed software site, the customer-installed software
procedure should be used. If no hardware problem exists, then restart the
installation. If the problem persists, contact your distributor or Nortel
support group for assistance.
If you need to perform a reinstallation, refer to the Meridian MAX 8
Upgrade Guide (NTP 553-4001-210), “Software upgrades and
reinstallations” chapter.
Upgrades
As your operation grows, you may require greater Meridian MAX
functionality and capacity. This growth can be accommodated through
hardware and software upgrades within Meridian MAX 8. System
functionality can be increased through software upgrades, once the
necessary hardware changes are complete.
A software upgrade is performed when you want to install new Meridian
MAX 8 software that changes the system’s features and functionality.
A software upgrade can be performed in two ways:
1 The first is within the same Meridian MAX platform, such as
upgrading a current SNN-E system to an SNN-E system with more
features and functionality.
