Limited distance modems for NAC connectivity
Limited distance modems extend workstation and printer connections when
used for a remote supervisor login or a network link.
Remote supervisor login and network link
The following modems are supported for limited distance connections
using a remote supervisor login or a network link:
Gandalf LDS 120E
Develcon DS 511A
Gandalf LDS 120E and Develcon DS 511A
The Gandalf LDS 120E and Develcon DS 511A limited distance modems
can be used for both the remote supervisor login and the network link. This
modem allows you to extend the distance between a NAC system and a
Meridian MAX to a nominal distance of eight km (five miles). Other
limited-distance modems may not provide the eight km (five miles)
distance. It is your responsibility to check with the particular manufacturer.
ATTENTION
RS-232 cables that directly connect peripherals to the Meridian
MAX must not exceed 15 meters (50 feet).
This length is based on an EIA RS-232C standard. Peripherals can
be farther away if self-powered limited-distance (own power
supply), or dial-up modems are used.
ATTENTION
Cable connections between the LAN and the Meridian MAX must
not exceed 50 meters (164 feet).
This connection is an IEEE standard 802.3.
For NAC 2, each remote supervisor login and network link requiring a
limited-distance modem needs a straight-through NT1R03Dx cable and the
modem cable NT7D99AA (SNN/SNN-E) or NT1R03HF (IPE/IPE-E) at
the Meridian MAX end and at the NAC end.
