Installation Guide

IP Addresses
An IP address is a unique identifier for a device connected on the LAN.
The Meridian MAX system requires a unique IP address, as does each PC
running MTE. In order to use MTE on a LAN, you need to obtain the IP
address for your PC and the Meridian MAX system. This can be obtained
from your network administrator.
The IP address is in the format a.b.c.d, where a falls within the range of 0
to 223 (excluding 127), and b, c, and d fall within the range of 0 to 254.
FTP Software’s PC/TCP Users Guide, “Using IP Addresses” section,
explains the numbering scheme for IP addresses. You must adhere to the IP
addressing scheme.
Once Meridian MAX has a configured IP address, the address can be
entered in the Host Name or IP Address field on the MTE set-up screen.
Subnet mask
The subnet mask is a 32-bit number used by the network software on a
local machine to determine which bits belong to the network or to the host
parts of the internet address. This is either the system default or a value
assigned by your network administrator. By modifying this number, your
network efficiency can be improved. If the system IP address is changed,
the default subnet mask changes as well.
The subnet mask is of the form a.b.c.d where a, b, c, and d are in the range
of 0 to 255.
Default router/gateway address
In a networked environment, routers (or gateways) provide connectivity
between two networks. The default router/gateway address is used to
specify the router or gateway used with Meridian MAX. This is either the
system default or an address assigned by your network administrator.
The default router/gateway address is of the format a.b.c.d, where a is in
the range of 0 to 223, and b, c, and d are in the range of 0 to 254.
Hostnames
A Hostname is the name assigned to the Meridian MAX system by the
LAN administrator, that provides an alternate to the IP Address. For more
information, refer to the FTP Software PC/TCP Users Guide, “Using
Hostnames” section.
